You may think the title to this article is contradictory. Or irritating if you really feel you have more to do than can be accomplished in the time you have available every day. How can I relax? I barely get it all done as it is? It is for you that I write this, you are the perfect subject.
By relax, I mean take the time every day, as little as 5 minutes to a half hour, whatever you can manage, to relax your mind intentionally. I’m not referring to spacing out to mindless TV or reading a book (not that there’s anything wrong with those, especially reading) but doing a meditative practice of some sort to clear your mind, to stop the random ceaseless thinking, planning, doing and take a moment to BE. Just be. We are, after all, human beings, not human doings.![Relax! You’ll Get More Done. How Meditation Makes You More Efficient. Relax! You’ll Get More Done. How Meditation Makes You More Efficient.]()
Brain studies show that a mind in meditations is more active than a consciously thinking mind. When you allow your mind to relax it can access that deeper part of you that has the answers you seek. When you allow yourself to truly relax and take care of slowing down your mind and your nervous system your brain works more easily and efficiently.
There are many different ways to have a meditative experience and they do not need to include sitting cross-legged and chanting ohm (although that’s good too!). Exercise can be a meditative experience if you let it. The important idea is to let go of thinking, let go of the steady stream of thought that you often are not even aware of.
One of the easiest and quickest ways that I know of to do this is by sitting comfortably with your spine straight and focusing on your breath going in and out of your body. It is simple (though not always easy) and can be done anywhere. Ideally you will do this somewhere that you will not be distracted for 15 to 30 minutes. But it can even be on an airplane where you are surrounded by people (provided you are not the pilot). Any time you find yourself thinking about something, gently disengage your thoughts and return to your breathing. It’s OK. It will happen. But the longer you practice the easier it will become. Pay attention to your eyes. A lot of eye movement indicates a lot of thoughts and a turbulent mind. Relax and breathe.
When you engage in quieting your mind this way you will be more efficient and a better problem-solver when you return to your active life. Things will go more smoothly, you will handle stresses better. And in these ways, you create more time for yourself. Enjoy it and relax some more.

It is wise to keep your immunity strong so you can easily fend off invaders and pathogens that can make you sick.
A good start for using natural health therapies to increase your immunity is to pay attention to how you feel. Know that if you are feeling tired, sluggish or below your normal energy level you may be fighting off a ‘bug’ even if you otherwise still feel healthy.
The following are great strategies to employ to stay healthy naturally.
- With your fist, thump your sternum a couple inches below your collarbones. This action stimulates your thymus gland, the ‘master gland’ of the lymph system. This will help swollen lymph nodes and keep your immune system at its best. Thump for about 30 seconds.
- Tap on your K-27 acupuncture points. This will help revitalize you and help you think more clearly. To tap on K-27; find your collarbones. Slide your fingers to the middle where there is a bump, drop down an inch and out an inch. There may be an indent or some soreness. Use the tops of 2 or more fingers and tap for about 30 seconds.
- Tap on your spleen points. To help to lift your energy and boost your immune system. Find these points by moving your hands directly in line with your nipples below your breasts and down one more rib. Tap as with the K-27 points above. Again, these points may be sensitive.
- Drink lots of fluids. Staying hydrated is vital to your body functioning at its best. Healing uses up even more fluids.
- Get plenty of rest. Your body needs down time to rejuvenate.
- Breathe deeply. Bacteria, viruses and other pathogens cannot survive in an oxygen-rich environment.
- Whether it is massage or more simply being held or having your hair stroked, touch improves the immune system. And it feels so nice and comforting.
- If you have fever, eat ‘cooling’ foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits. Adding fresh mint and lime to your foods will help open your lung passages.
- If you are experiencing chills, eat warming foods such as ginger, garlic, and curry. These are best prepared in soups, stews or sautés.
Consistently using these easy tips and natural health therapies can be instrumental in helping you return to health and stay naturally healthy in the future.

Several years ago a friend told me about EFT and so I went to the EFT home page and gave it a look. Wow, what a fascinating concept. In a nutshell, EFT (which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a form of acupuncture but you tap on yourself instead of using needles. Gary Craig, the creator of EFT sums it up best. Gary Says:
“EFT is a powerful new discovery that combines two well established sciences so you can benefit from both at the same time:
- Mind Body Medicine
- Acupuncture (this new version does not require needles–anyone can do it).
There is voluminous scientific evidence that each of these methods, applied by itself, can provide impressive relief. But when you combine them both with EFT, a profound synergistic effect is possible. I have observed this repeatedly since 1997 and have seen many stunning results. I believe it is this synergism that allows EFT to sometimes work where nothing else will.”
I myself have been using EFT and teaching it to others for a couple of years now. EFT is an effective and fast way to delete, manage and diminish emotions of stress and fear. It can be used for almost any situation and is completely safe. Why not give EFT a try? This is one of the single most effective and immediately available natural health therapies I know of. You can teach yourself by going to the EFT Home Page or learn from a practitioner Give yourself and the world a more peaceful you!

I know how overwhelming the information on natural health therapies and remedies can be. We want to simplify our lives not complicate them more. Complicated = stressful. NOT what we are looking for. So while I was doing some research I stumbled upon this nice little article:9 Holistic Remedies You Need in Your Medicine Cabinet by By Kate Hanley.
Kate is clearly a girl after my own heart. She consulted with Dr. Jen Johnson, a naturopathic doctor in Westport, Conn. and Rebekah Azarelli, a homeopath in Brooklyn, N.Y., to find out what they recommend most commonly for their family and patients. I am happy to see that many of these are already in use in my house. How about yours? They are as follows:
1. Vitamin C for Cold and flu. ~ Vitamin C targets and nourishes immune cells to help them fight off invaders.
2. Hot water bottle for Upset stomachs, menstrual cramps and insomnia. The bottle retains heat well and radiates the heat into your body to gently relax muscles and calm the nervous system.
3. Neti pot for stuffy nose and allergies. Flushing the nasal passages with non-iodized salt in warm water opens, cleans, and tones them. A neti pot is specially designed to make it easier to get the fluid into the nasal passages, and it’s easy to clean.
4. Vitamin B-complex for fatigue. Take one capsule a day of the highest-quality supplement you can find. (Look for a mark that says “USP verified” on the label, which indicates that the supplement’s purity, potency, and quality has been rigorously researched by the United States Pharmacopeia, a non-profit public health organization.) B-complex provides energy at the cellular level to your glandular system — which regulates your hormone levels and the overall functioning of your body.
5. White vinegar for Athlete’s foot and fungal infections. Soak feet in 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, 15 minutes daily for one week. White vinegar is a natural anti-fungal.
6. Elderberry syrup for colds and flu. Azarelli recommends Honey Gardens Apitherapy Elderberry Syrup, but advises that it shouldn’t be given to children less than one year old, because it contains honey, which carries a small risk of botulism for young babies.
7. Arnica for bruises and swelling. Arnica (Arnica montana) has been used for pain, inflammation, bruising and other conditions since the 1500s.
8. Chamomile tea for insomnia. Chamomile soothes the mind and the nervous system to help you get to sleep.
9. Honey for cuts and dry skin. Honey has natural antibiotic properties and acts as a humectant to draw moisture to the skin.

One of the quickest, easiest and most available Natural Health Therapies I know is to breathe. I know, I know, it sounds obvious and perhaps even over-used or trite but nevertheless should not be taken lightly. Most of us do not breathe deeply enough. It is a good place to start for natural health. Breathing deeply exchanges fresh oxygen for stale air. Oxygen as we know is a key component of life. Bringing lots of oxygen to your body brings in energy, vitality and health. Loads of oxygen work to actually kill off harmful organisms that can live in your body. And the age-old practices of Pranayama which is a sanskrit yogic name for various breathing practices can really ramp up your energy so that you can truly feel that energetic life force coursing through your body. I’ll write more on this subject in future entries. For now, BREATHE, deeply, slowly and with intention for healing for your greatest good.

Natural Health Therapies can include a wide range of topics and information. Products, services and self-directed techniques that all fall under the umbrella of natural health therapies can be overwhelming and confusing.
I like to learn about and consider everything I find ,then simplify, and focus on what I find that works best for me. I encourage you to do the same. I often bring something new into my life to improve it and share with others. I tend to focus on natural health therapies related to stress reduction, good nutrition, exercise and skin care. Many of these techniques are free or inexpensive and only require a committment toward and desire for, greater health. There are a few products I have found that work exceptionally well too and I like to endorse these products in the hopes that others will experience their benefits.
There are many natural ways to achieve optimum health and wellness and an important part of the formula is to minimize stress and to invite a balanced lifestyle. Stress relief that results in greater life balance can be achieved in many ways. Exercise of any kind, meditation, yoga, dancing, prayer, good nutrition, massage and conscious deep breathing are all great ways to start on the road to taking better care of your health naturally.
By adding any or all of these natural health therapies or practices to your life you will be working towards reducing stress and increasing your ability to meet every day challenges with a more calm and centered outlook.
