Keeping Natural Health Therapies Simple
Posted under alternative health, alternative therapies, natural healthI know how overwhelming the information on natural health therapies and remedies can be. We want to simplify our lives not complicate them more. Complicated = stressful. NOT what we are looking for. So while I was doing some research I stumbled upon this nice little article:9 Holistic Remedies You Need in Your Medicine Cabinet by
Dr. Jen Johnson, a naturopathic doctor in Westport, Conn. and Rebekah Azarelli, a homeopath in Brooklyn, N.Y., to find out what they recommend most commonly for their family and patients. I am happy to see that many of these are already in use in my house. How about yours? They are as follows:
1. Vitamin C for Cold and flu. ~ Vitamin C targets and nourishes immune cells to help them fight off invaders.
2. Hot water bottle for Upset stomachs, menstrual cramps and insomnia. The bottle retains heat well and radiates the heat into your body to gently relax muscles and calm the nervous system.
3. Neti pot for stuffy nose and allergies. Flushing the nasal passages with non-iodized salt in warm water opens, cleans, and tones them. A neti pot is specially designed to make it easier to get the fluid into the nasal passages, and it’s easy to clean.
4. Vitamin B-complex for fatigue. Take one capsule a day of the highest-quality supplement you can find. (Look for a mark that says “USP verified” on the label, which indicates that the supplement’s purity, potency, and quality has been rigorously researched by the United States Pharmacopeia, a non-profit public health organization.) B-complex provides energy at the cellular level to your glandular system — which regulates your hormone levels and the overall functioning of your body.
5. White vinegar for Athlete’s foot and fungal infections. Soak feet in 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, 15 minutes daily for one week. White vinegar is a natural anti-fungal.
6. Elderberry syrup for colds and flu. Azarelli recommends Honey Gardens Apitherapy Elderberry Syrup, but advises that it shouldn’t be given to children less than one year old, because it contains honey, which carries a small risk of botulism for young babies.
7. Arnica for bruises and swelling. Arnica (Arnica montana) has been used for pain, inflammation, bruising and other conditions since the 1500s.
8. Chamomile tea for insomnia. Chamomile soothes the mind and the nervous system to help you get to sleep.
9. Honey for cuts and dry skin. Honey has natural antibiotic properties and acts as a humectant to draw moisture to the skin.
